To stop any harm from approaching us is much better than waiting to let it come and then trying to remove it. In life man has to pass through many dangers and difficulties. It is beyond man’s power to provide against those that come upon him suddenly and unexpected. But much can be done for the prevention of those which can be anticipated, if only a bit of caution and prudence is exercised. It is always safer to prevent an evil than to allow it to overtake us. For, after it has done some amount of harm and put us to some expense it is useless to think seriously of remedying it.
