Hepatitis is a deadly disease and is killing 1.5 million people a year so if you think you are at risk you’re doing the right thing by going to a doctor. Your doctor will be able to talk to you about available tests; these usually involve a blood test of sorts. You can talk to your doctor about why you think you may be at risk and generally they will decide if you need to take tests or not.
Hepatitis is most common in strains B & C and both can be treated but only B has a vaccine. Your doctor will be able to talk you through the risks and can advice you on what to avoid etc.
Make sure you ask your doctor for a leaflet or information pack about Hepatitis and do your research. World Hepatitis Day is coming up so if you would like more information then head to http://www.aminumber12.org and support their campaign to promote awareness of this disease.
