Mr. Gene Upshaw, president of National Football League Players Association (NFL PA) is no more. He was battling against pancreatic cancer and was 63 years old. It was a great loss to NFA which could never be filled.
Upshaw was a well talented player of his times. He was selected seven times as a Pro ball guard in his whole career with Oakland Raiders. Serving as an executive director of the players union since 1983, he was inducted into Pro Football Hall Of fame in year 1987. His talent was well evident by his temperament of game. His aggressive game play made his team to win two super ball events amongst all three.
During his president ship of NFLPA he helped players a lot and tried hard in securing free agency for them. He also led the players through a major strike in 1987. His place was rare earned in Pro Football Hall of Fame both for his efforts and result on & off the field. He was a brave man and that is why he never ever discussed about his health to anyone. World of football has lost a legend, May god rest his soul in peace.
